Where Art Meets Life

CAFE SOCIETY VISION

"In my mind and heart it is not just the sights and museums that capture the essence of a city or village, but rather the life of the cafés," explains Café Society founder Joan Osburn in the book The Cafés of San Francisco.

"The café is a gathering place, to see and be seen as well as a refuge where one can be alone without the interruptions and pressures of everyday life. Historically, the café is where artists, writers, performers, politicians, traders and the people met and cross-fertilized their ideas & schemes and so it is about culture, change, civilization and revolution, as well as coffee and wine. What makes café society, café society is that it is inclusive- open to all that love the café life. In France, the cafe is the "third place," apart from work and home, where one can put time on hold and just be who you are. In American cities cafés have become a significant gathering place. In San Francisco, Café Society is in the authentic European tradition and so has become a meeting place for the "creatives" of a myriad of arts and technology movements as well as the epicenter for cross fertilization of art and technology."
