As co-principal of Café Society, along with her husband Steve Osburn, Joan is a Francophile and café lover with a mission to bring European café culture and style to America. Her inspiration has always been the French café; a gathering place for artists, intellects, students, lovers and revolutionaries for centuries. She finds the café to be a lively environment; sometimes intellectual yet always relaxed, where one can meet friends, work on a laptop, read, discuss politics or have a romantic rendezvous.
Joan's love of France and European culture started when she studied painting in Paris after college and the feeling has been with her ever since. Her background in fine art and interior design include a wide spectrum of styles and references, which enable her to approach every project with fresh eyes. Joan's talents expand many disciplines with a particular expertise in color design. As a color expert she views every three-dimensional space as her canvas, especially cafés!
She is an Allied Member of the American Society of Interior Design (ASID) and a member of the Color Marketing Group(CMG). Joan also serves on the board of Philanthropy by Design and The Napa Valley Opera House.
Joan Osburn has studied painting in Paris and Cal Arts (Chouinard) in Los Angeles. Her work has been exhibited in art galleries and museums across the country. She has a degree in Interior Design and Color from the Rudolph Schaeffer School of Design in San Francisco and a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from the University of California at Berkeley.
